Minor Hockey Season Update

Bancroft & District Minor Hockey Association

Sept 13, 2020

The onset of Covid-19 restrictions in Ontario brought an abrupt end to the 2019/2020 hockey season in March.  Since then, the BDMHA has been closely following the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, the Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada for updates and participating in online meetings.  OMHA has been working diligently to put together safe return to hockey protocols.  There has been a staged in approach that coincided with the Provincial restrictions, and until recently there was very little to share that was relevant to BDMHA.

We are please to announce that BDMHA has received approval from the OMHA for our Return to Hockey Programming Plan.

We have divided the fall months into 2 Blocks, with Block 3 planned to start January 1st.  As everyone can appreciate, these Blocks are part of the plan for returning to hockey but can change at any time depending on Provincial and local Health Unit guidelines.

Block 1:

-        Sept 20 to Oct 18 (4 weeks)

-        $100 per player

-        2 hrs per week of ice time per division

-        Most divisions will see skills development for 1hr and Power skating for 1 hr.

Block 2:

-        Oct 19 to Dec 20 (9 weeks)

-        $230 per player

-        2 hrs per week of ice time per division

-        Players will continue skills development for 1 hr per week

-        3 on 3 play is planned for 1 hr in this block (pending OMHA approval)

Block 3:

-        January 1st - TBD

-        Block 3 will be developed in the later fall months to better accommodate Covid-19 guidelines and OMHA direction in place at
   that time.

For U18 – Midget aged players: we need to know player numbers to move forward with planning a return to hockey that will work for this division.  It’s important that we have players registered so we can continue that planning.  If we have enough players, we could plan a senior division for 3 on 3 play, so please register.

BDMHA activities will follow the Infection Control and Prevention Guidelines prepared and implemented by the North Hastings Community Centre.  You can read them by clicking here: NHCC COVID-19 Guidelines  These guidelines will be provided to parents and caregivers who have registered players.

As part of this effort we need to confirm who is interested in playing hockey this year by getting our players registered ASAP. See below 👇🏼 for information and links for registration.

Thank you,

Marc Gibson

BDMHA President
