Mineral Capital Cup Tournament Huge Success for Novice Rep Jets
The Wilson Timber Mart Novice Rep Jets hosted their annual Mineral Capital Cup hockey tournament at the North Hastings Community Centre on Saturday, November 25th.  For the special day, the home Jets welcomed their peers and families from Renfrew, Millbrook, Stirling, and the Barry’s Bay area for a fun-filled day of great hockey action and community support.

With the overwhelming support of local businesses, family members, and the team’s dedicated group of parents, players, and siblings, the NHCC was buzzing with excitement throughout the day, fueled by homemade food, Vito’s pizza, baked goods, and great prizes donated and on display for team fundraising.  Heck, someone even put in a few bucks to win Leafs tickets!

The home Jets played early against the Barry’s Bay and area Valley Storm, and the Storm were more bright-eyed than the Jets.  In the Jets second match, they faced a strong pack of Renfrew Timberwolves, and with a full team effort, the Jets pulled out a well-earned win.

Part of the day’s action-packed fun included a special skills competition for all teams to participate in a breakaway shootout, a speed skating race, and a relay puck control challenge, in front of the enthusiastic crowd of cheering fans.   The Renfrew Timberwolves captured the goaltending and shootout events, as well as the 3-player puck handling relay.  The speedster from the Valley Storm took the speed skating event, edging out the Jets’ Jack Peters by only 0.20 seconds in the final, head-to head matchup.

From the point tally at the end of their two games, the Jets paired up against the Millbrook Stars in the C semi-final game and battled to a 4-4 tie at the end of regulation.  In the following shoot-out, the Stars edged the Jets, to carry on to the B, and the Jets got their tournament medals with big smiles and appreciation for a great day of exciting competition, and meeting new friends from other centres.

In the B championship game, the Renfrew Timberwolves faced the Millbrook Stars and worked hard to edge out a win for the B championship.  In the tournament’s A final, the Stirling Blues were focused on the prize, and navigated the Valley Storm, taking away the gold medals.

In addition to the superb hockey action, was the success of the community’s support of the Novice Rep Jets with many generous prize and food donations from team sponsors, local businesses, family members, friends, and many others from the greater Jets family.  A special thanks to Vito’s Pizzeria, Wilson Timber Mart, Rockers Landscape & Construction, Vance Motors, Dillabough Millwrighting & Welding, Barry Bowers Construction, Greenview Environmental Management, Roger’s Pro Shop, Tracy Leach and Manfred Nemeczek, and many others.

With everyone’s support and teamwork, the day was a resounding success as the Jets and the NHCC showed our guests from all over eastern Ontario the unique, Mineral Capital hospitality of Bancroft and surrounding area. Attachments:
