Novice Rep Jets Challenge for Top Half of League Standings
The Prince Edward County Kings visited the Wilson Timber Mart Novice Rep Jets at the NHCC on Saturday for the Jets’ last home game for a bit. After a very busy weekend last, and a fun and safe Halloween instead of practice, the kids came rested, ready, and refueled with their favourite treats.
The majority of the first period had good back and forth play, and the Jets got on the board first with a goal by Reid McEathron, assisted by Kieran Cox and Brody Harrison. In the second, the Kings answered back with two, despite strong defensive play and focused goaltending by Jayden Hughey. Before the end of the second, Brody Harrison evened it up at 2-2 heading into the final frame. A few other chances by the Jets just couldn’t find their way into the net.
Early in the third, the Kings netted two, back-to-back in less than a minute. The Jets stayed on target and eventually potted a late third marker at 2:01 remaining in the game. The Jets pulled their goalie, and despite the extra skater, weren’t quite able to tie up the game before the end of regulation.
The Novice Jets played well against the Kings, getting back to playing their way against one of the league’s top teams, with a final score of only 4-3 for the Kings. The Jets head out next weekend facing the league’s two top teams in Frontenac and Gananoque, looking to steal one.
The Novice Jets are next at home with a back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday, November 18/19 at the NHCC. Please come and join in the fun and support the kids. Also, the Novice’s home tourney, the Mineral Capital Cup, is set for Saturday, November 25th, all day at the NHCC. Teams from Millbrook, Renfrew, Barry’s Bay, and others will be joining our Novices for a great day of hockey and other activities, and we invite you to come out and support this important community event.
